Nude Male with Echo #223
Darren Demaree
If I had shoulders of fog
how clear the sun would be
when I found how to love
horizontally, the creek bed
& the gentle teeth of the animals
that tended to me there.
I would be as small as possible,
casting no shadow, pushing
no personal narratives
into the water or into the sky
& I could live like that
forever. I should have
learned that before
I was trained to never leave
the balls of my feet;
for that, I cannot forgive
the words my father chose.
