Katherine Gaffney
Beyond the eye, so I
can’t feel, brush, touch. Come
here. Many with eyes closed
seek praise, ascension
without body. I, with eyes
open, watch the arches—
brows raised over absent
eyes, to meet mine, body
that waits unblinking
for air, light, answer.

Katherine Gaffney recently finished her MFA at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and she now works as an editor and writer for a digital media group. Her manuscript entitled "No One Thought of Birds" was a semi-finalist for the Lexi Rudnitsky Prize from Persea Books.
